How to resist Halloween candy for you and your kids

Halloween is my favorite time of year and if it's yours too then you may find it hard to resist those little bite sized candies that you end up eating all of. I'm going to make this hub simple and to the point so here are my Top 5 "Tricks for Less Treats."

Pumpkin Baskets and Pillow Cases

Here are my hardcore Top 5 "tricks for less treats."

1. Buy a pumpkin basket.

Your average pumpkin basket is 32-50 ounces and your average pillow case can hold 3x's that amount. If you want your kids to bring home less candy then give them less to put it in. Don't be a witch and give them less than a pumpkin basket because kids will find places to put the extra candy just to spite you.

2. Eat the bigger treats first.

Did I just tell you to eat more? No. If you ate one large Hershey's chocolate bar you would consume 210 calories whereas if you had 1 bite sized chocolate bar you would consume 67 calories each, you know you won't stop at just one. Psychologically as humans when we see big we think big, we see small and we think small. When you eat a big chocolate bar you are going to feel guilty sooner for eating that than you are for eating a bite sized treat...until you eat the whole bag.

3. What ya got ya gotta get it put it in you.

Give it away, give it away, give it away now. Get rid of it. If you or your child don't like a treat then don't be tricked into trading with a friend " I doubt adults trade with one another but hey, I went trick or treating until I was 16 so to each their own." When you trade treats you are going to have even more Hershey's kisses to eat and wrappers to clean out of your car.

4. Tricky, trick.

Trick your kids into trying out a few treats they just got while trick or treating. If they nibble on a few different things they will end up not eating the entire thing, leaving the wrapper open and confusing them as to how old it is later. If you have ever left a steak dinner open on your counter at home after eating out you will understand how this is 100% true.

5. Hey that's a creepy looking porch.

I remember when my mom told my best friend and I to go to the neighbor right next to her house in Illinois. The guy had flashing lights, creepy Halloween Music....and he was sitting on the porch. After he of course popped out of the rocking chair and scared us, we didn't really have the guts to remember our goals of becoming fat teen wolfs.

Halloween really is all about Trick "or" Treating, a battle of witch mom versus sneaky, hungry ghost child if you will. In the end the fun of the candy and dressing up for Halloween is the most important part. If you push too hard trying to trick your child they will simply end up treating themselves to a sugar laden zombie fit biting your arm off and crying.
